Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
